Why I’d like to be a “Mark Warner Mum”

The first beach I ever saw was in Greece as a young child, aged 7. I was just spellbound seeing all that water. I know I had been to beaches before that but it’s the memories created at this age that truly imprinted upon me. I was amazed that a short plane ride had taken me to a world so different to the one I knew and that feeling stayed with me. Even now, I remember closing my eyes and feeling the sun on my face and thinking how happy I was to be there.

Somedays the thought of lying by a pool in the sun with a cocktail seems like Heaven but I know what I’m like and that I’d manage an hour tops before I got suncream on my book and wanted to go off and do something. My perfect holiday would be the chance to share an unforgettable experience with my family. It would consist of beautiful surroundings and the opportunity to try something new. I like to go and explore a place and really soak it all in, enjoy the different cultures and cuisines. Everytime I travel somewhere, a bit of my heart gets left behind but in return a bit of magic comes home with me and I’m left with wonderful memories. That’s what I want for my children. To reminisce in years to come about “That time we went to….”. And I’m sure they’ll laugh at the outfits I picked out for them, just the way I do with my mum.

Part of the fun for me is the opportunity to take photos I wouldn’t normally take. My love of film was cemented after a trip to New York where I shot film exclusively on a little plastic Lomography camera and I’m already thinking about what lenses I want to take with me for our big family trip to California next spring. I love to capture our real lives and find the joy and beauty in those everyday moments. To do that with a different backdrop just makes it all the more fun and special.

I feel travelling to new countries is one of the best educational experiences children can have. Equally, seeing them exploring rock pools on a freezing beach on the Isle of Wight will become a memorable family holiday moment. One thing I hope for my children is that their travels inspire them to have the confidence to try new things and to throw themselves into new experiences 100%.
