We looked after my parents dog a couple of weeks ago and so my folks offered to have the kids to stay for a weekend in return. How could we turn down an offer like that?! We went on an overnight to London and had the best time! We’ve stayed overnight separately for the odd night here and there but I can’t remember when we last went together. I think it must be before we had the kids! We made the most of it, we went to see the matinee of Miss Saigon, then for an early dinner in Chinatown before heading down to the Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington. On their website they say the hotel is a short walk from South Kensington tube station and we know what that usually means so when we walked out of the station, Google maps at the ready and saw the hotel literally straight in front of us, we were pleasantly surprised! We checked in and went down to the bar…a few yummy cocktails later and it’s all a bit of a blur…I’ve drunk alcohol twice since New Year so it’s probably not surprising that I ended up rather tipsy!
We did say that on Sunday we would have a look around the shops, go to The Serpentine and had loads of plans but instead we enjoyed a lie in in the gigantic bed and I took a long bath, we drank coffee and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast was lovely, I really love little touches like a small jug of steamed milk with my coffee and oatmeal and yogurt served in a jar. And it’s such a rare occurrence to be able to read an entire paper! We sat there practically ignoring one another! The hotel was so nice, it was quirky and relaxed and I want whoever did the interior to come and do our house. The bathrooms are by C.P. Hart and are classic but contemporary at the same time. I love a bubble bath (especially using all the little hotel lotions and potions!) and we had a bath/shower which can sometimes mean a teeny tiny bath but it was perfectly sized (I know, I sound like Goldilocks). The bathroom complimented our room perfectly and we felt so relaxed after our night away! My husband even let me drag him around the V&A for a whole hour!
Here’s what we got up to (I’ve spared you the photos of me in the bath and us in our bathrobes, you’ll be relieved to hear!)
