My 21st Century child’s current ambition, is to be a YouTuber. Yes, really. He loves to watch people talking about things that interest him (a LOT of Minecraft…) and people reviewing things they’ve built. He has been begging to make a video but we just hadn’t managed to get round to it and he didn’t know what he wanted to talk about, so when I was asked if he’d like to review some Skylanders goodies, I thought “Perfect!”. Like every other 6 year old we know, he loves Skylanders. He excitedly counted down the days until they launched Swap Force and it was the only think he really wanted for Christmas and spent all of Christmas morning playing it (in Swap Force PJs, obviously). If you don’t know any 6 year olds, you might not be familiar with Skylanders. It’s a console game which features various Skylanders characters (you can purchase more figures fairly inexpensively so they’re very good “tidy your room” motivators). You put them on a “portal of power” in order for them to join the game and they all have different powers, like air, fire, water, earth & magic so you switch the characters throughout the game to complete the tasks. Not that I’ve been allowed to play, of course. (You can check out the Skylanders guide for parents HERE

We were sent a Puffin book – Skylanders Universe: Complete Collection and a Skylanders Swap Force Mega Bloks jet boat to build.

The book is made up of facts about all the Skylanders with lots of really colourful pictures, rather than it being a bedtime story. Our little reviewer said it was “Awesome” because “It has loads of Skylanders in, all my favourite ones and hasn’t got big words and too much reading”. He was excited to look up the Skylanders he already has and read about ones he’s interested in an was able to read most of what was written independently.

Now the jet boat…. this took 3 days to build but he really enjoyed building it. Parts of it were a little bit fiddly for little hands and required a bit of concentrating, so they were left to me!

I made the mistake of calling this a Skylanders man and he rolled his eyes so hard and said “It’s not a man, Mum, it’s a greeble… “. That told me.

This is what he thought of the Mega Bloks Sharp Finn jet boat (and yay! his first vlog!)

We were sent the Skylanders Swap Force Mega Bloks jet boat and the Skylanders Universe: Complete Collection for the purposes of this review. Thank you so much! The promise of goodies at the weekend also meant he was good as gold all week so thanks for that, too!

If you’re looking to book a weekend break, a European city break, theatre tickets or a last minute hotel room then Superbreak are the guys you need! They also offer tickets to a wide range of UK attractions including Legoland, Drayton Manor, and Alton Towers. As we have a shark loving 6 year old who wants to be “an aquarianist” when he grows up, there was one stand out choice for us when it came to a half term day out and that was the National SeaLife Centre.

Despite being a native Brummie, this was the first time I’d ever been to the SeaLife Centre (although I am quite familiar with the Pitcher & Piano pub next door!). We went on the first day of half term so it was quite packed and we had to keep moving the whole time and couldn’t stop at the tanks for long. We were also on a mission to find the “real life hammerhead shark” and so there was no time for anything else! We took a look at the interactive rock pool and both kids wanted to touch the crabs but then kept changing their minds, we’d walk away, “I wanna touch a crab!”, back we’d go “No, NO! I’m not touching it!”. You know how it goes!sealife-001sealife-002My favourite part was the jellyfish. They’re so calming to watch (as long as they’re on the other side of the glass, obviously!). The tanks are lit with coloured lights and we stood there for ages just watching them. We learned that a group of jellyfish is called a smack. Little jellyfish fact for you there.sealife-003

It’s not just fish, they also have otters, amphibians and at Easter, the brand new Penguin Ice Adventure opens. We got to watch the construction and it looks amazing! We’ll definitely be going back to see them in the summer. I might even pluck up the courage to hold a starfish. Or y’know…not.sealife-004Sunshine loved the turtles so much!sealife-006sealife-005sealife-010The highlight of the trip for our little shark lover – A REAL LIFE HAMMERHEAD! sealife-007(How odd looking are they?!)

The children were sent some gorgeous clothes recently from Their Nibs‘ Autumn/Winter collection. I’ve bought Little Dude clothes from them before, so I was thrilled that they’d asked my little darlings to roadtest some bits for them. Their catalogue is like a fashion magazine for the under 10 crowd and the clothes have a lovely vintage vibe to them. They sent the most perfect things for the two of them and they really fit with how I love to dress them. Sunshine already has a pretty wonderful wardrobe and I’m insanely jealous that they don’t make this dress in my size, it’s just beautiful! His dudeness was given a really cosy hoodie in a retro skateboard fabric which he thought was very cool! It’s lined so it’s thick enough for him to wear in place of a coat (apart from when he fell over paddling into the sea. FYI, it washes well – You know you’re a mum when you start saying things like that).
