Category Archives: MAD Blog Awards

We got new sofas recently and the fact that I’m hysterical about the kids being near them (they already have been scrubbed of sick, nosebleed, blackberry crumble, snot…) and the sheer amount of crap the kids have accumulated in their few years, lead to deciding to turn our office/dumping ground into a space for the kids. Yeah, that was all one sentence. Thanks to the tax man, we’re on a tight budget at the moment but my mum watches 60 minute makeover and promised we could do it on the cheap and with minimal effort…we’re 4 days in, we’re exhausted, the rest of the house is a wreck, we’re fed up of painting but it’s looking GREAT! I can’t wait to share in a few days. We’re just waiting on a few essentials first, like bunting.

Can I just say a huge thanks to anyone who has taken the time to nominate me in the MAD Blog Awards. I was lucky enough to be a finalist in the photography category last year and was so happy to be nominated in photography again and “most entertaining”. I love writing this blog and it means a lot to me that people recognise that. (PS, you can nominate HERE if you’d like to.)

If we’re friends on Facebook or if you have ever met my mum, you probably know that I went to London on Friday for the MAD Blog Awards. Having never been to an award ceremony before, I wasn’t sure what to expect so was quite nervous about the whole thing. I was even more nervous about not having a frock – I’d took so bloody long to decide that it hadn’t arrived in time. Oops. Luckily for me, I was being dressed by Boden (I know right? How ace is that?) and they were so lovely to me and had my gorgeous dress waiting for me at the hotel when I arrived. Is that service or what? I could easily get used to that kind of treatment, thank you very much. I LOVE their kids clothes and their catalogue so I was so excited that they had offered me a dress and very excited when I tried in on at the hotel (in the toilet, I’m classy like that) and it fitted and was just lovely.

L-R – Morgana, Katie, Natalie, Me, Clara

With Clara from My Two Mums. Thanks for letting me use your pictures!

The mingling and meal went very quickly, before I knew it they were announcing the winner of my category. I didn’t get the trophy this time but I was so proud seeing my homepage flash up on the big screen. I made the top 5, people! It was Capture By Lucy‘s night and this girl is so creative and works so hard on her blog (and actually like, blogs regularly) that I can’t begrudge her her win for a second.

Once the awards were done with, we got down to the serious business of celebrating. I was sharing a room with Morgana from But Why Mummy Why? and Kelle from Maggie Stone which wasn’t planned but those girls were very persuasive and I was happy to do that rather than trek across London to catch the last train home. Morgana won her category so a good knees up was in order! It was a brilliant night and I loved spending the evening with some really wonderful people, some of whom I hope will be friends for many years to come. The whole thing has been a fantastic experience and I want to say a huge thank you to everybody that voted for me. It’s the best feeling in the world knowing that people are behind you. And massive, massive thank you to Sally and her team who organised the whole thing and arranged our trip to Legoland earlier in the year which was the best and most magical day of the Little Dude’s life.

Aside from getting dressed up to the nines and spending the evening in a swanky hotel, this week I’ve enjoyed

My Two Mums first vlog (that’s a video, Mum).

Cardies & Crumbs’ fashion advice. I went into town and really thought about what she’d said. Pretty sure I’m going to have the coolest kids around thanks to her.

Using film. I’m making the switch from Nikon to Canon (This is treachery to my Nikon using friends) and I recently got my first Canon, an EOS 3 (the last film camera Canon made) and I LOVE IT. Can’t wait to use some black & white film. Old skool.

Finally, I’m over on my good friend Lauren’s blog, Real Housewife of Suffolk County, banging on about photography for a change. You should check it out.

Have a wonderful week! Peace out.

I *was* going to include my favourites from the Father’s Day photos I took this year but even I can’t look at that many photos of my kids so I’ll save them for later on this week. You’re welcome.

Last year on Father’s Day I got drunk with my friends at a Christening (we’re classy like that) so I’d promised Beloved a lie in, breakfast in bed and all the trimmings for this Father’s Day…… and then the lovely people from the MAD Blog Awards asked us if we wanted to spend the day at Legoland with our families getting to know the other bloggers and of course we said YES! We aren’t going away on holiday this year (something about a very expensive 30th birthday party…oops!) so we treated ourselves to a night at the Legoland Hotel in one of their themed adventure rooms. For the Little Dude who LOVES Lego, it was the best and most magical day of his life.

Lego everywhere! Every few seconds there would be an excited “LOOK! A Lego hat/parrot/monkey/flowers/pirate”. He loved it! They really have thought of everything, the lifts talk to you, there’s so much for them to see and do and there’s such a friendly and relaxed vibe. I was on the lookout for the other bloggers as soon as we arrived. In the splash pool, I was looking at the other parents to see if any of them “looked like a blogger” (I don’t know what I think a blogger would look like, but still..) desperately hoping that I wouldn’t have to introduce myself while wearing a dodgy swimming costume that’s a bit baggy from being stretched during pregnancy (note to self – buy swimming costume) and with a half arsed leg shave (Beloved was away for work all week and took his razor so I’d had to do a quick once over with the lady shave I’d bought from Boots en route. Told you I was classy)

The next day started with a showing of Lego Chima 4D (HUGE deal to our Lego fan!). I can add Legoland Imagination Theatre to the “places I’ve breastfed” list, so that’s special.

Next stop was Duplo Valley which I thought the smalls would love, especially the new splash part but it was early in the day and pretty nippy in the water. Sunshine had a play on the park while her brother donned his wetsuit.Little Dude got his haircut this week (it’s loads shorter than I wanted it….don’t get me started…) so I spent most of the day having slightly hysterical “OMG, WHERE IS HE?!?!?!” meltdowns because I didn’t recognise him. Motherly love and all that.Sunshine loved the Fairytale BrookMaking them have a Father’s Day picture which they were all thrilled about
We loved the pirate show. People dressed as pirates and somersaulting into water is the most hilarious thing EVER when you’re five. The obligatory “standing next to stuff made from Lego” photosSlides for the smalls instead of steps! Such a good ideaLovin’ the Lego babaWhile Little Dude went on the bigger kid rides, Sunshine took her shoes and socks off for the upteenth time which is just as funWhen in Rome…

We really had the most amazing day and we were spoilt with VIP wristbands which meant we didn’t have to wait for the rides, a perk that every single one of us loved. Little Dude was heartbroken when it was time to take it off. I was so thrilled to meet some lovely bloggers, when I started this, I didn’t realise what a nice little community I was joining. I can’t wait to see everyone again soon. Cheesy, I know.
