Family TravelGiveaway! Yay! Exciting times. Sadly it’s *not* a holiday on this occasion (I know, right?) but if you’re always planning the next adventure and want to explore the world with your kids in tow then do I have the event for you. And if you don’t but want to see a few photos from our break in Devon, scroll on my friend. At the end of the month, the first Family Travel Show is taking place at London Olympia (31st October & 1st November) and I have a pair of tickets to give away. It’s a great opportunity to gain inspiration and advice from travel bloggers and celebrity speakers and there’s likely to be some great show-only offers. Covering everything from all-inclusive luxury getaways, exciting cruise voyages, action-packed resorts and family-friendly villas, to intriguing adventures, thrilling ski holidays and incredible wildlife safaris, there’s something for everyone. If you have a budding young photographer on your hands, there’s also the chance for them to win some goodies by taking part in the Young Travel Photographers Competition. There’s an under 11s category and a 12-17 and my gosh, are these kids talented! You can see the entries so far and find out how your child can enter HERE.

We have managed a few fun trips this year, although we didn’t venture abroad which is probably just as well as I recently discovered that Bevan’s passport expired (Well done us. On the ball as usual). We went to Brixham in Devon back in August and it was the first time I’d been to that part of the country. The weather wasn’t the best (typically is was amazing the week after!) but the place was just beautiful, I was in my happy snapping element! I have the best memories of family holidays as a child and it’s wonderful to be creating new ones with my own family.

Since he turned 8, I am really noticing the “big kid” stuff. I’m not allowed to say goodbye at the classroom door in the mornings, instead I have to leave him to walk through the gate into the playground by himself and I’m only allowed to give him a kiss if there’s nobody from his class around. Embarrassed to be seen with me already! Not too old or too cool to feed some ducks though and he absolutely made sure the smaller ones got their fair share of crust. Champion of the underdog, or should that be underduck?

Lately I really haven’t felt like a very good mother at all. Maybe it’s my appalling time management, maybe every mother feels like this, but it’s hard to keep the plates all spinning. I feel like I haven’t had enough time for anything and it’s meant I’m impatient and cross. The hours spent editing photos at my computer clearly addle my brain because I end up snapping at the kiddos and I feel guilty that I just haven’t been enjoying them recently. Sunshine wasn’t very well last week and my initial reaction was exasperation at everything I needed to do and my messed up plans. She just wanted me and it was a bit of a sobering moment. Yesterday I took her to see a friend’s pony, all our little girls are pony mad which is a source of entertainment to my friends that I am terrified of horses and she just can’t get enough of them, and I just enjoyed being with her and didn’t care about anything else for a while. I think I need to do more of that. And maybe actually start using the fancy planners I got?
