Monthly Archives: August 2015

Hello there! I hope if you have school aged kiddos that you’re surviving the summer holidays or that you at least have copious amounts of alcohol on hand. Ours have seven weeks off this year! Big thank you to whoever at Bedfordshire Council thought that was a fun idea. We’ve done a few days out but I didn’t want to peak too early and thought they’d need some time to wind down so I’ve spread most of the fun stuff over the next few weeks including….

The Living Arrows Summer Meet-up!!

I know, right? Exciting or what! We are meeting on Thursday at 11 am at Rushmere Country Park in Leighton Buzzard.

It would be absolutely brilliant if you could join us! It’s a chance for those who take part in the linky to get together but the more the merrier so if you haven’t linked up or even if you don’t blog, you are still welcome. I’ll be setting up my picnic blanket over near the visitor centre and afterwards we’ll explore the woods. This place has so many photo opportunities!

It’s Lauren from Real Housewife of Suffolk County‘s turn to host Living Arrows this week so head on over to her blog to see what photo offerings we have for you this week and link up yourselves if you’d like.

A few years ago I worked with this guy. We’ll call him Graeme because that’s his name. Anyway, Graeme was (is!) a photographer and I remember him saying that he sometimes felt like he put so much into the photography he did for other people that he felt a little uninspired when it came to stuff for himself. Oh the ignorance of youth! “That will never happen to me!” I thought. I love taking photos (shock revelation!) but lately I’ve just lost the enthusiasm when it comes to photographing my own family. I’ve been taking the camera out less and less which is SO out of character for me! I was thinking about what I could do to get the spark back and thought I would shoot more film over the summer. If you’ve read this blog before, you’ll know about my undying love for film photography, I just adore the tones and the film photos I took a couple of summers ago are among my favourites I’ve ever taken so I planned to use my old SLR  bit more and stocked up on some of my favourite Poundland film. Then a couple of days ago, I was talking to some other bloggers about a challenge for the summer and we decided on Analogue August! We’re each going to approach the idea differently but for me, I’m going to shoot film exclusively for the whole month (fear not wedding clients, this is only for myself!). I have built up a collection of cameras and I’m excited to play with them more. I’m so used to my digital now that I know where all the settings are without even looking (not saying that’s a bad thing!) so it’ll be nice to give these old cameras some love!

Fancy joining in? If you’re new to using film, a great place to pick up film cameras is Cash Converters and some models can be used with digital lenses, especially a 50mm. I have a Canon Eos 3 and use the same lenses for that as I do for my digital. I like trying out different colour films but colour negative film is my favourite and luckily for me, they sell it in Poundland so it doesn’t need to cost a lot to get started. For developing, I use my local Costco and get the negatives scanned straight on to a CD.

I’m excited to get my first roll back! And because I love to show them off, a couple of favourites from when I first started using film. The kiddos look so little. Killin’ me with cute!
